Going through the praise withdrawal | Great Maths Teaching Ideas

Is giving lots of praise counter-productive? It seems as though recent research is suggesting so.

It’s important as educators to remember that we want to give praise where it will do the best for students – a large discussion and data about the role of awards and rewards is currently being discussed. Teachers and schools might reflect on how they praise and use other forms of rewards/awards.

For parents, this is a great reminder to be real and authentic with our children. As a father of 8, this is a good reminder to praise my children when they deserve it as well as remember that harsh criticism and contstant nagging isn’t very productive either! Praise when it’s deserved!
