What an awesome chat last night! Our topic was teaching with Essential Questions and what a chat it was! There were some great discussions, most of which flew by as the participants were engaged and eagerly sharing!

I gave tchat.io a try tonight and it works well to pause the chat to be able to read more closely and adds the #saskedchat hashtag automatically. For anyone new to chats, it would be a good way to follow along and slow down the speed of the chat.  As moderator, I still like using tweetdeck with multiple columns but for someone trying to follow along, tchat.io is a nice option and has a simple interface!

For this chat, I based most of the questions from the reading I have done and the books  Essential Questions: Opening Doors to Student Understanding by Jay McTighe and Grant Wiggins and Integrating Differentiated Instruction and Understanding by Design by Carol Ann Tomlinson and Jay McTighe.

I would also recommend reading What is an Essential Question and Use Essential Questions to Improve Instruction which are both good introductions to Essential Questions in designing  planning and instruction.  The archive from the chat is below. There were some great discussions and exchanges!
I’d especially like to thank Dave Bircher and Amy Lawson for helping to moderate the chat. As the chat has developed it has become important for us to share the responsibilities of the chat. What started as an idea to have Saskatchewan educators come together to share ideas has developed and grown and I am very grateful to everyone who has joined the chat and who participates each week especially to some of the first participants such as Alan Stange, Michelle Smart, Farrah Graham and Terry Johanson who have made incredible contributions to the chat and promote it to other educators. If you are interested in learning more, you can go to our Google+ community or sign up for our Reminder group to get regular (kinda) reminders and updates of the chat. We’d also like to invite anyone interested to join the #saskedchat blogging challenge where, as a group, we blog about about a topic. We support each other and share what others are doing as a way to help each other grow and learn as educators.
